So, this last week has proved to be pretty interesting. A lot of random crazy things have been happening. The first, we had a tumble weed storm...So, as we are on our way to a lesson we get a text from Sister Howes that says, "You can go inside if you need to." We weren't really sure what that meant until we looked behind us. There was a giant black cloud that was heading straight for us. As it got closer the wind picked up and dust started filling the area. I was getting pretty excited. President and Sister Howes usually don't give missionaries an opportunity to stay inside, so I figured that it was going to be pretty intense. Meanwhile, as we were headed to our lesson, we decided that we should park the car and get out to take some pictures. Then, the main part of the storm hit. Wind was going crazy, and it wasn't raining, but it was throwing tumble weeds everywhere. I have never seen so many tumble weeds in my life. There was literally road blocks of tumble weeds. They were jumping fences, flying in the air and clumping together in huge masses, but I guess what can you expect from an Arizona Desert Town....
Then, the next day as Elder Waite and I were on our way to our last lesson of the day, we looked up in the sky and saw a plane start dropping these giant balls of fire. We thought we were being bombed.... The plane was right above where our lesson was, and so knowing we were on the Lord's errand, we just figured we would continue going in that direction haha. As we got closer the amount of flaming balls just continued to increase. We stopped at a stop light and the lady next to us looked like she was going to pass out she was so scared. It honestly looked like they were bombs falling from the sky. As we get closer, we see all of the flames go out and then it turns into a flashing light as it slowly gets closer to the ground. So, we just continue forward and finally are able to see what it is. It was a bunch of parachuters with giant flares or something landing in the middle of a kiss concert haha. The things that happen in Casa Grande....
This week has also allowed me to be see not only how aware God is of us, but as well how real and powerful the adversary is. Without fail, every time someone makes the decision to be baptized, challenges and trials come in their lives. I think that one of the hardest things that I have been able to witness in my life is seeing someone who has developed a testimony of the Book of Mormon fall to these trials. It just shows how truly important it is to act on the promptings that we get from the Holy Ghost and never waiver. As I have thought about these things and how hard it is for me to watch these things happen, I thought about how hard it must be for God to see his children have so many witnesses of the truth, and chose to deny it. Time and time again I am reminded how huge of a role our individual agency holds in the plan of happiness that God has created for us. It truly is a plan of happiness, a plan of freedom, because we get to chose our destiny. We get to chose if we are going to live with God and have eternal life, or if we are going to chose the opposite. It just always makes me think if I am using this gift that I have, the gift of agency, in the best way possible; because as we know, the victor of the battle has already been chosen. We are just choosing if we want to be standing on the winning side, or the losing.
I am grateful to be out here to help share with the people here the things that I have come to know to be true. I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to share these eternal truths with them, and I am grateful to come in contact with those that are the elect, who chose to follow God's plan no matter how strong the adversary works against them.
I love you all. Take care.
Oh, also a little food for thought. Eloy, one of the towns I serve in has the most unsolved murder crimes in the nation.... :)
